TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A former Army Captain will receive the Medal of Honor in October.
Captain William D. Swenson will be presented the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in a White House ceremony October 15th.
Making him the sixth living recipient of the nations highest military ward for valor during combat in Iraq of Afghanistan.
Senator Jerry Moran released a statement that read,"much time has passed, but i'm happy to see that will's nomination has finally received presidential attention and he is getting the recognition he deserves."
On September 8th 2009, in Ganjgal, Afghanistan, Captain Swenson saved numerous lives after his team was ambushed by insurgents in an attack killing and wounding a number of U.S. servicemen and Afghan soldiers.
