TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - It's time for Topekans to come together to stock the shelves of area food pantries.
Project Topeka kicked off its 27th annual food drive Thursday. The Topeka Fire Department hosted the lunch event.
Kansas Corrections Secretary Ray Roberts was on hand to accept an award for state workers' support of the food drive last year. Shawnee County employees also were honored, along with last year's top four corporate donors, BNSF, Westar, Capitol Federal and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
People who are not involved in a company or organization taking part can still pitch in by bringing nonperishable food donations to sites around town, including any Topeka or Shawnee County fire station.
