Announcing Skills Make Young KU Fan YouTube Sensation

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - What started as a fun video for the family has exploded into nearly 30,000 hits on YouTube.

Arika Sprecker says five-year old son, Nick, became enamored with the starting lineup announcements the first time they took him to see KU play at Allen Fieldhouse. She says he soon caught on and began asking questions.

Nick gained a lot of knowledge and opinions about his favorite team. His favorite player is Travis Releford - Nick thinks he is the best defender. Best three-point shooters? Tyshawn Taylor and Elijah Johnson. Tallest player? Jeff Withey.

He also revealed the secret to a good performance. Nick says you have to say the names loudly because that's how the fans will cheer loudly.

Nick kept honing his act around the house, so, one night, Arika picked up a video camera to capture the act for family and friends. Her brother posted the video on Facebook, and it made its way to YouTube, where KU All-American Thomas Robinson saw it and tweeted the link - an act Nick called "awesome."

T-Rob's tweet sent Nick from a few hundred to approaching 30,000 views in four days. As Nick says, that's "way more than a hundred."

While Arika says Nick might end up in broadcasting someday, for now, he has hoop dreams. He wants to play for Kansas, of course.

"I only play for good teams," he declares.
