TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -Campers are catching the bus and heading to a special camp this week.
Sixteen area kids are getting the chance to attend the American Cancer Society's 30th Annual Camp Hope near Great Bend.
Children attending the camp either have cancer or have had it and campers will enjoy swimming, hiking, fishing and much more.
The trip offers kids a chance to finally join others that can relate to their experiences.
They dont have to explain about why they are feeling well or why they dont have hair. Everybody already knows and its a normal experience and that's why they love to go, says American Cancer Society staff member Jill Sirrenauer.
Mother Michelle Kaberline has been sending her John, a cancer survivor, since 2008 and says, "It was a great opportunity to get away from home and connect with others of similar experiences and we were glad he had a wonderful time."
A record number of 99 campers total will attend this year's camp which runs through Saturday.
