TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- The most common disaster threat to families is a home fire and the American Red Cross is offering fire safety and prevention tips.
Every year, the Red Cross responds to about 70 thousand disasters across the country and more than 90 percent are fire related.
The Red Cross encourages you to reduce your risk by being aware of fire hazards in or around your home such as the kitchen stove, candles, and BBQ grills.
They also say to create a home fire plan to survive and learn how to install smoke alarms.
