WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE)--Police say alcohol and speed played roles in a crash that left two people dead overnight.

It happened around 3 a.m. at Kellogg and Webb Road. Police say a pickup truck with three men inside was traveling westbound on Kellogg at a high rate of speed when it hit a traffic utility pole in the intersection.

Both passengers, ages 50 and 34, were thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The 37-year-old driver got out of the truck and waited for emergency crews. He was taken to an area hospital for observation.

Kellogg and Webb was shut down for several hours, but reopened during rush hour.

Witnesses say the truck was traveling between 65 and 90 miles per hour when the accident occurred. Once the driver is cleared from the hospital, he will be arrested and could face two counts of second-degree murder.

All three are Texas residents, who had been working in the area on oil rigs.
