TOPEKA, Kan. -- Soldiers of the Kansas National Guard’s Agribusiness Development Team 4 will be welcomed home from an agribusiness mission in Afghanistan during a ceremony on Thursday, June 7.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Hanger 680, Army Aviation Support Facility #1, Gary Ormsby Drive and J Street, Forbes Field, Topeka. The doors will open at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

“This team has done an outstanding job of building on the work of the three previous teams to mentor and assist the people of the Laghman Province in making a better future for themselves,” said Maj. Gen. (KS) Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general. “It’s in missions like this that the Kansas National Guard shines, missions where we not only use the skills we have as soldiers, but also the knowledge and expertise we have as citizens of Kansas.”

ADT #4 is comprised of approximately 60 members of the Kansas Army National Guard under the command of Lt. Col. Russell Richardson.

The soldiers deployed in September 2011 to the Laghman Province in Afghanistan. They worked in conjunction with the Provincial Reconstruction Team, USAID, USDA, the Department of State and other agencies to assist in building capabilities for increased agricultural production, training and services, and improving the safety of food and other agricultural products that are produced and distributed to the Afghan people.

They also assisted in the development of sustainable agriculture and other related enterprises to increase the economic well-being of the Afghans.
