TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Gov. Sam Brownback has declared November as "Kansas Adoption month."
He signed the proclamation Friday morning at a Statehouse ceremony attended by several adoptive families.
More than 380 Kansas children are currently waiting for a permanent family.
Brownback has been a strong adoption advocate. He and his wife Mary have adopted 2 children themselves.
Angie and Darrin Reith were among the adoptive parents at Friday's ceremony. They say it means more to them than they could have ever thought.
"We have learned so many life lessons through adoption about forgiveness, love and resilience of children," Angie said.
"They bring joy and happiness and challenges," Darrin added. "It has changed our lives for the better."
