Accident Victim Identified; KS Gas Evaluating Damage

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A woman injured when her vehicle flipped off the Kansas Turnpike is out of the hospital.

Just before 8:30 pm Wednesday, the Kansas Turnpike Authority says 21-year old Kariesha Kidd of Overland Park lost control of her car. It went through the ditch, hit a fence, then hit a gas line east of SE 21st and Croco, before rolling.

Authorities initially considered her injuries critical, but Stormont-Vail says Kidd was released Thursday.

A strong smell of gas forced authorities to reroute traffic on the Turnpike and SE 21st for more than an hour Wednesday night until Kansas Gas Service crews could shut off the gas and investigate.

A KGS spokesperson said Thursday that the vehicle hit an inactive commercial meter setting, so no service was disrupted. She said crews are evaluating what repairs might be needed.
