MAPLE HILL, Kan. (WIBW)-- Multiple accidents along I-70 closed portions of the roadway near Maple Hill Friday during rush hour.
Crews responded to a four vehicle accident during the 4 p.m. hour. Traffic was slowed down when a car crested the hill and hit the back of another one causing a chain reaction. A male was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crews then responded to a rollover accident near mile marker 339 on I-70 in the 4 p.m. hour.
Officials tell 13 News a car carrying two people was heading East on I-70 when it rolled. It is unclear why it rolled. Both people inside were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
About the same time, several other accidents were reported with the same five mile stretch of highway near Maple Hill.
Officials say another three people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic slowed and the Kansas Highway Patrol closed the westbound lanes of traffic while crews worked the accident scenes.
I-70 was open to one lane of traffic in both directions as of 5:30 p.m. Friday.
No further details were immediately released.
