GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Geary County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a teenager from Abilene.

Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Old Highway 40 just south of Interstate 70 near Milford Lake Road at 3:45 AM Sunday in reference to a single vehicle fatality accident.

A car driven by Shane Olberding, 19, “left the roadway for unknown reasons before overturning multiple times,” according to reports.

At the time of the accident, Olberding was headed west. He was the only person inside the car.

He passed away at the scene due to the injuries he suffered as a result of the crash, reports stated.

According to officials, Olberding’s body has been sent to Topeka for an autopsy.

The accident remains under investigation.

Officials with the Geary County Sheriff’s Department suspect alcohol was a factor in the fatal rollover.

Kansas State University's website lists Olberding as a freshman in Business Administration.
