TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A Southeast Kansas refinery operator is facing a hefty fine of 2 million dollars in clean up costs and penalties, from an oil spill.

The spill happened during the 2007 coffeyville flood. The 2.3 million dollars includes a more than $550,000 civil penalty to settle violations of the Clean Water Act.

Most of the money will reimburse federal costs that came along with cleaning up the verdigree river after the flood. More than 21,00 barrels of crude oil, water and diesel fuel spilled during the flood.
