TOPEKA, Kansas - Shawnee County is now backing efforts to catch Google's attention. Support is growing to bring Google's high speed fiber internet network to the capital city.
At Thursday's Shawnee County commission meeting, commissioners decided to do some renaming of their own, after Topeka mayor Bill Bunten on Monday renamed the city of Topeka "Google" for the month of March.
Commissioner Shelly Buhler has a community center named after her in Rossville. It will now be known as the "Google Community Center of Rossville."
And the Ted Ensley Gardens at Lake Shawnee will now be "Google Gardens."
Commissioner Vic Miller was feeling a little left out of all the renaming announcements, saying he would name something too, but nobody has named anything after him.
