The board says the problem stems from a more than one million dollar education revenue loss. To make up for that loss, the board cut 600 thousand dollars in many ways, including reducing staff in the district and even closing Delia Charter School. But they still needed to make up 400 thousand dollars. That's the amount they saved by closing Emmett.

The vote was tabled twice to fully study the issue, but tonight the 4-2 decision sealed the fate of Emmett Grade School.

Emmett parents told the board what they thought could be cut from the budget to save their school at the board's last meeting and those same parents tonight say they felt like the board never listened.

Board members assured parents that this is their only solution and that their children's education will not suffer.

St. Mary's Grade School plans to absorb the 73 students from Emmett.
