TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A 1963 graduate of Topeka High School is cycling to his 50th reunion, all the way from California.

David Briery began his trip on August 31st, and arrived in Topeka Tuesday afternoon.

He began in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, biking along Route 66 and the Old Santa Fe Trail, blogging about his adventure online along the roughly 1,500 mile trek.

The day before he left on his trip, Briery retired from his job at the Bureau of Land Management. He says this has given him time to think about the rest of his life.

"This is kind of a transition for me about the kinds of things that I want to do the rest of my life. Certainly travel, certainly be outside, more adventure travel and writing," said Briery.

Briery writes about his trip on a Facebook page called 'Bikenado.'

He quips about each day's progress and the people he meets along the way.
