EMPORIA, Kansas (WIBW) -- Emporia Police are trying to stop rumors saying that there is a connection with their department and last week's shooting death.

Police Chief Gary Smith told KVOE that 25 year old Omar Flores was not an informant working in a controlled buy of illicit drugs.

He also says the rumors may be affecting the investigation. And if the rumors are found malicious or intentional, those responsible will be prosecuted.

Police say they found Flores shot multiple times outside Emporia's Rodeway Inn last week.
