54,000 People Attend Spirit Of Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--About 54,000 people attended the 17th annual Spirit of Kansas Fireworks Celebration Thursday.

Shawnee County Parks and Recreation estimates about 8,000 people attended the car show and craft festival. About 1,200 people lined the shores for the boat and ski show while another 4,500 went to the blues festival.

Officials estimate that 21,000 people watched the fireworks show from the park property while another 18,000 watched from surrounding neighborhoods. It is estimated that 60 boats were on the water.

Approximately 600 people took advantage of the bus transportation provided by Topeka Metro.
