MANHATTAN (FROM FHDC, 13 News) -- The brand new Flint Hills Discovery Center celebrates one month Monday since its opening, but on Sunday, had already welcomed its 10,000th visitor.
5-year old Wamego resident, A.J. Mumford crossed the front entry as the lucky guest. The family group was surprised to be greeted by balloons and a giant Flint Hills prize package at the Visitors Services Desk upon entry. A.J. was most excited of all about his big day at the Flint Hills Discovery Center as he had just celebrated his 5th birthday on Saturday.
Young Mr. Mumford shared his excitement about being the 10,000th visitor as he posed for a photo before the Flint Hills Discovery Center's Wall of Honor with his family members by his side. As the 10,000th visitor, A.J. was greeted with balloons and a Flint Hills prize package including goods for the whole family to enjoy. The gift basket included Flint Hills Discovery Center merchandise, Symphony in the Flint Hills tickets and a gift certificate to Old Chicago in Manhattan. Members of the family reside locally in Manhattan, Wamego and Topeka.
A.J. was joined by many family members including the Mumford and Walsh families of Wamego, the Barngrover family of Manhattan/ Fort Riley, and the Moody family of Topeka. The winning group also posed in front of the Flint Hills Discovery Center's Pioneer Bluffs exhibit with smiles on their faces. As they explored the permanent exhibit gallery that they shared they could not wait to finish exploring all that the Flint Hills Discovery Center had to offer.
