Berryton (WIBW) - With the state facing more grim money news, local school boards got together Tuesday to finalize their budgets on this last day of fiscal year 2009.

The Shawnee Heights district's board of education met at 7:15 am, before members headed to work. Superintendent Marty Stessman says they transferred additional money to their reserve and special education funds. He says that money will be used to reduce the impact of budget cuts.

School districts across the state are waiting to see if more cuts lie ahead with the state anticipating further revenue shortfalls. Stessman says USD 450 has made $1.2 million in cuts already as state funding decreased.

Stessman says the district is concerned about more cuts down the line. However, he says the board and district are working to be as prudent as possible with their money so they can make as few cuts as possible that would impact students.

Among cuts already made, Shawnee Heights reduced the number of coaches across the board and reduced the number of sophomore and "C" team athletic programs.
