WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Association of Wheat Growers says the harvest is progressing throughout most of the state.

In its daily harvest update, the group said Sunday the exception is extreme northeast Kansas where cutting has yet to begin.

Harvest is gearing up in Lane County. Kansas Wheat Commission vice chairman Ron Suppes reported that the white wheat he is now cutting is averaging more than 64 pounds per bushel. He said wheat that looked like a disaster in March is now yielding at least 40 bushels an acre.

Harvest is about 70 percent done at the Farmway Co-op in Beloit. In Oakley, harvest is just starting.
