CANTON, Kan. (AP) _ Authorities in central Kansas say a boy and girl who witnessed the shooting deaths of their mother and a friend are safe and with other family members.

Three people were found dead in the aftermath of the shootings Sunday near Canton in McPherson County. The children, a 13-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, were not harmed.

Sheriff Larry Powell said the boy called 911 and alerted authorities.

Sheriff's officers found the mother, 33-year-old Becky R. Huff, and 47-year-old Mark Luttig dead inside Huff's home. They found Huff's 32-year-old estranged husband, Brian Huff, shot dead in his vehicle outside the house.

Powell said Brian Huff apparently shot himself. The case is being treated as a murder-suicide.
