Ft. Bragg/Topeka (WIBW) - A Topeka West High School graduate will compete for the title Soldier of the Year.
Spec. Travis Weaver earned the trip by besting nearly a dozen other soldiers in four days of competition at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in April. That contest earned him the honor of XVIII Airborne Corps Soldier of the Year.
Weaver is a signal support specialist with the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. In addition to Weaver's achievement, Staff Sgt.
Ryan Green, platoon sergeant, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, won the NCO of the Year title.
Weaver and Green showed off their skills in areas like warrior task training, physical fitness and a written exam. The two were honored at Nascar's Coca-Cola 600 race over the weekend.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to see what I could do... test my abilities,” Weaver told Fort Bragg's Paraglide newspaper.
Weaver and Green go on to compete for the title of FORSCOM Soldier of the Year competition July 26 to 31 at Fort Hood, Texas.
