WASHINGTON (AP) _ The U.S. Treasury Department says Kansas will receive $23 million in federal stimulus funds to build affordable housing.

The department announced Friday that Kansas was among the first group of recipients.

The agency said one example of a project that will receive funding is under way in Osawatomie.

There, developers are building new housing for the elderly. Treasury officials said the developers had to halt the project earlier this year because of the economy.
