Parkinson Restores Funding To Planned Parenthood

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Mark Parkinson has restored moved to restore funding for Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.

It was the governor's first chance to weigh in on the abortion issue.

Parkinson on Thursday restored $250,000 in funding for Planned Parenthood by using his line-item veto power. He removed language from a budget-balancing bill cutting the funding.

Abortion opponents had backed the provision. Planned Parenthood performs abortions at its clinic in Overland Park, a Kansas City suburb, but says no state funds it receives go toward the procedures.
