A contest to help save endangered animals, asked students nation wide to draw a picture of one of those animals. 15,000 entries were sent in from kindergarten and first graders.

20 winners were picked with Trey Hayes of Meriden Kansas one of those winners. Trey is a 1st grader at Jeff West Elementary.

He wins a big stuffed animal, $50 certificate to the endangered animal of his choice, along with a gift bag.

There was an assembly that announced Trey as the winner in front of the whole school.

The picture he drew is that of a hyena (we think).
