Topeka (WIBW) - A proposed redevelopment plan for South Topeka got the thumbs down from Shawnee County Commissioners.
The Commission voted Thursday to adopt a resolution saying it couldn't get on board with a tax increment financing district Topeka City Council members approved for the area around White Lakes Plaza at 37th and South Topeka Boulevard.
Commissioner Vic Miller said he had legal concerns because some school districts with land in the TIF area weren't notified of the plan. He also said the plan's details weren't specific enough. He said until he knew what the TIF district would include, he couldn't say whether it would be a benefit to the city and county.
In other action Thursday, the commission put off final approval for a sand plant for Meier's Ready Mix after discovering some of the land the business wants to use is located inside city limits.
Commissioners asked Meiers to work out an arrangement to either buy or lease the land from the city, otherwise the license for it will likely be revoked.
