Beginning during the first episode of Survivor: Tocantins, I hosted a live blog on wibw.com to interact with other fans of Survivor during the show. As a unique opportunity for our viewing area, the response was overwhelming! The blogs included chat about the show and polls about the contestants! In addition, we had a special guest Danni Boatwright, winner of Survivor: Guatemala, log on during one of the blogs. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Over the course of the season, I had been in contact with CBS to try and get tickets to the LIVE Finale show. We were communicating for a couple months and about 3 weeks before the show date of May 17, 2009, I received confirmation that I would receive a pair of tickets to attend!
Due to my graduation on Saturday from Washburn University, I took the first flight to New York on Sunday morning from the Kansas City Airport at 6:45 am and made it to my hotel in the city at 1:00 pm. With only a couple hours before the show we went down to Times Square and then got ready to broadcast LIVE from outside the Ed Sullivan Theater on the 13 News at 5:30 newscast with Rae Chelle Davis!
I was seated on the upper balcony level which is considered VIP seating because it allows for a clear view of the show without camera’s flying over your head or blocking your view. During the first two hours of the finale the audience watched the same show on television as the viewing public at home. The audience was free to move around the theater seating area and the theater hosts threw out survivor merchandise.
To get ready for the LIVE show on CBS, we went over clapping and laughing to give the added effects that were needed for a great Finale production for the viewers at home. Once the show started, we could no longer move around the theater. The castaways and Jeff Probst made their grand entrance on stage as shown when the show went LIVE. Everything that was shown on CBS was what we saw live, with a little bit more interaction with Jeff during commercial breaks.
When JT won the million dollars and the hundred thousand dollar prize of Sprint Player of the season the audience erupted. JT was definitely a great player and played the game very strategically. Click on the questions in the video player to see what the final four castaways had to say about this season.
