LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ The owners of a Lawrence apartment complex where three people died in a 2005 arson fire are telling all
tenants to leave as soon as they can.
An attorney for Boardwalk Apartments said Monday that the owners
want to do ``something different'' with the property. Several fire victims and family members reached a $12 million out-of-court settlement with the complex on May 6.
Lawrence attorney Todd Thompson said ownership group Boardwalk
Apartments L.C. "would like to have the complex vacated so that they can pursue other options.'' He said the building is probably not in compliance with the city's fire safety code.
Jason Rose was convicted in May 2007 of three counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of arson and seven counts of battery. He's serving a 10-year prison sentence.
