WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Mark Parkinson has signed a bill allowing Kansas to tap into $69 million in federal stimulus funds to bolster unemployment benefits.

The legislation signed Tuesday in Wichita helps more out-of-work Kansans qualify for unemployment benefits. It also extends unemployment benefits for people enrolled in a state-approved job
training program.

The CEO of Wichita-based Spirit Aerosystems said the legislation will help the city keep its technical base, even though airplane-makers have been laying off workers. He said the city's aircraft plants do not want to lose the skilled technical base to other communities.
