KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Police say a thief stole a Kansas City sergeant's equipment bag from his patrol car while the officer chased a pair of carjacking suspects.

The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site that police said the sergeant pursued the suspects early Sunday after they abandoned the vehicle taken in the carjacking. The officer caught one of the suspects, but the other got away.

The sergeant returned to his patrol car to find his equipment bag missing from the back seat. The bag contained a gas mask, handcuffs, rain gear, two ticket books and other items.

Kansas City police still were trying to find the bag and a suspect Monday.
