KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The number of home foreclosure filings in Kansas fell in April, but still was higher than a year ago.

A report released Wednesday by Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac shows 787 foreclosure filings in Kansas last month. Filings include default notices, auction-sale notices and bank repossessions.

That's a 6.75 percent drop from March, but still 5.6 percent higher than April of last year.

One in every 1,549 housing units in the state received a foreclosure filing in April.

That rate is well below the national average of one in every 374 households, and ranked Kansas 37th nationally.

Nevada had the nation's highest foreclosure rate in April - one in every 68 housing units. Florida was second and California was third.
