Military Honored During Armed Forces Day at Heartland Park Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. - Heartland Park Topeka is honoring all military personnel and veterans during its Fifth Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 16. Gates open to the public at 4 p.m. Admission is free and parking will be available inside the park. All traffic should enter Heartland Park Topeka through Gate A. The event will be canceled if it is raining.

The day’s events will feature military equipment and aircraft static displays from the Kansas National Guard, including a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, M1A1 tank, Multiple Launch Rocket System, Paladin mobile howitzer, Armored Combat Earthmover, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and P23 Fire Truck.

Kansas National Guard Counterdrug will have an obstacle course set up to be used with their golf cart and smart decision goggles course. Other displays will include the Kansas National Guard Family Programs, the Kansas National Guard sponsored race bikes, the Topeka Fire Department and a climbing wall. Two rock bands from the 35th Division Band will perform free concerts in the afternoon.

Heartland Park Topeka will offer free admission dirt track race starting at 7 p.m. to all military ID card holders showing identification at the ticket stand. The Kansas Patriot Guard will serve as the color guard at the beginning of the race. A fireworks display will begin immediately following the dirt track races at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Heartland Park Topeka is also offering military members free admission to several of their events including: AMA, Div 5 Championship, Div 5 ET Series, All Dirt Race Series. This offer excludes the NHRA Summer National. All Military personal will have to show their military ID at the ticket stand on the day of the event to receive one free admission.
