'Big Red One' Deputy Commander Named

FORT RILEY, Kan. – The Army Chief of Staff Tuesday announced the assignment of Col. (promotable) Paul. J. LaCamera as deputy commanding general, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley.

LaCamera has served since August 2007 with the United States Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. Prior to that, he commanded the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga., and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, first for Operation Anaconda as commander of the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry, 10th Mountain Div., and later as commander of 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regt.

LaCamera was commissioned as a second lieutenant in May 1985 after graduating from the United States Military Academy. He is a graduate of the National War College, where he received a master of arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. His awards include the Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal and Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, among others.
