People of faith gathered in Topeka and across the country Thursday to join in the 2009 National Day of Prayer.
The event focused on the hope and power that prayer brings..
In the capital city, faithgoers had a peaceful gathering outside of the Statehouse.
Prayer minister Earl Pickard said the group was comprised of citizens from Kansas who desire to come and pray and "ask the Lord to give us wisdom and knowledge of understanding of how to bring forth His purpose, His plans for America."
National Day of Prayer vice chairman Brian Toon says the event is an opportunity to enjoy the freedom of religion guaranteed by our Constitution.
