Sheriff's Office Investigates 2 Injury Accidents

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate injury accidents yesterday evening.

At approximately 8:33 pm Deputies were called to the scene of an accident in the 300 blk of Hwy 24 in Rossville. The accident involved a 1991 Buick 4-door driven by Joseph C. Burton, 22, of Delia, Ks and a 1999 Kawasaki Motorcycle driven by Corey Large, 20, of Manhattan, Ks.

Burton’s car was eastbound on 24 Hwy when he attempted a left turn. Large was westbound on 24 Hwy when his motorcycle collided with the car as it turned in front of him. Large was transported to Stormont-Vail hospital by AMR with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

This accident is under investigation. Burton was cited for Failure to yield and no seatbelt.

At Approximately 8:48 pm Deputies were called to the scene of a one-car accident that occurred in the 10000 blk of SW k-4 Hwy, one-tenth of a mile west of Hoch Rd.

A Ford F-150, driven by David S. Nelson, 47, of Topeka was westbound on K-4 when he lost control of his truck. The truck left the roadway hit the ditch and overturned. Nelson was taken to Stormont –Vail Hospital by AMR with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Nelson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

This accident is under investigation. Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
