A Fort Riley Transition team members was listed Monday as "whereabouts unknown" following an incident in Afghanistan Friday that killed two other soldiers.

The Department of Defense says he is 27-year old Staff Sergeant William Vile of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Insurgents attacked his unit, killing two soldiers from Fort Hood, Texas:

Sgt. James D. Pirtle, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; and Spc. Ryan C. King, 22, of Dallas, Ga. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

The DOD says vile's status means there's not enough information to say for certain whether he was captured or killed.
