Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt announced that various groups appear close to striking a deal on a budget-balancing bill.
Schmidt, an Independence Republican, sets the chamber's calendar and postponed the debate until Tuesday.
He made the announcement just minutes before the Senate was to begin debating a bill that included $127 million in cuts in the $13 billion budget legislators already have approved for the fiscal year that begins July 1. It also would increase revenues $122 million.
