TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Kansas House committee is meeting to begin work on the year's last spending bill.

That bill will be part of the plan legislators draft to eliminate a projected $328 million deficit in the next state budget.

Legislators already have approved a $13 billion spending plan for the state's 2010 fiscal year, which begins July 1. But last week, state officials and university economists slashed revenue projections, creating the budget gap.

After hearing from legislative staff Tuesday, the House Appropriations Committee was to break into subcommittees to consider different parts of the budget. The entire panel planned to reconvene Wednesday.

The Senate Ways and Means Committee planned to begin three days of meetings Wednesday. The entire Legislature reconvenes April 29.
