Designer's Showhouse Reveals "Tuscan Countryside Villa" in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. - Jerry Wittmer got his first look Friday at the makeover his home, 6648 SW Huntoon, received as the 2009 ERC Designer's Showhouse.

Wittmer hadn't seen his house since designers stripped it down to its bare bones back in February. He returned Friday night for a preview party and auction before the house was opened to the public Saturday.

Designers tranformed Wittmer's home into a Tuscan Countryside Villa to raise money for ERC's mission to help people in our area find quality child care.

Inside and out, from ceiling beams to the wood floors, the 5,000 square foot home has taken on the Tuscany look that blends well with the 1,000 grapevines surrounding it.

The home is open through May 17th. ERC offers tours daily Monday through Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sundays noon - 5 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door or $9 if purchased in advance. Lunches from local caterers will be served each day for $8. Group discouts are available, as are special packages during the week of April 19-25.

"Showhouse is the largest fundraiser for ERC Resource and Referral," says Reva Wywadis, executive director of ERC Resource and Referral. "For more than 30 years, ERC has provided customized child care referrals for parents, as well as training and professional development for child care providers and early childhood educators. We also provide referrals for housing, legal assistance, employment, medical or psychological counseling."
