AMERICUS, Kan. (AP) _ A coin toss has decided the outcome of the mayoral race in the small southeast Kansas town of Americus.

Roger Wright won the toss Thursday during a meeting of the Lyon County commissioners.

He had tied with Jena Johnson with the most write-in votes during the election last week.

Write-in votes accounted for all 29 ballots cast for Americus mayor.

The town of less than 1,000 residents is located about 8 miles north of Emporia.

It's common in rural Kansas for the seat of mayor to be filled with a write-in candidate.
