WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ An Abilene adult bookstore has sued Kansas challenging a statute restricting outdoor advertising signs for sexually-oriented businesses.

The Lions Den Adult Superstore filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against Kansas Attorney General Stephen Six. The lawsuit says a state statute restricting the location of signs on state highways violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States.

Under the statute, signs that violate the restrictions must be taken down before July 1. It also prohibits sexually oriented businesses from putting up new signs.

The Kansas attorney general's office did not have immediate comment on the filing.

Lions Den attorney Richard Bryant says the company was successful in invalidating a similarly worded statute in Missouri over a year ago.
