Washburn University Kicks off Its United Way Campaign

Washburn University kicked off its 2009 United Way "Get United" campaign today at noon.

University students, faculty and alumni came together on Washburn's campus to pledge their support.

The United Way supports more than thirty agencies, among them the American Red Cross. Ten United Way agencies attended today's event to allow attendees to see how their donations help the community.

Miriam Krehbiel, the president of United Way of Greater Topeka, and Jerry Farley, Washburn University's president, both spoke at the event. Kansas Corporation Committee Executive Director Susan Duffy emceed.

Complimentary desserts and drinks were provided to guests.

Washburn University has partnered with United Way since 2003.

"Between the students and faculty and just the university in general, the relationship has been going for years and years. Washburn is such an incredible partner with the community and also with the United Way," said Krehbiel.

The University's campaign runs through May 5.
