Former Kan. day care provider sentenced to prison

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A former Wichita day care provider has been
sentenced to 32 months in prison for the death of a 13 month old in
her care.
The sentence was imposed Friday in Sedgwick County District
Court in the case against Jessica Cummings. A jury convicted her in
December of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kailee
Hundley.
The girl died in March 2008 after she was partially strapped in
a car seat that was too small for her and left unsupervised for
more than two hours in a bathroom at the day care. The coroner
determined Kailee slipped down and strangled on the strap.
Cummings had testified at her trial that she hadn't meant any
harm to Kailee. But under cross-examination, she acknowledged that
regulations for licensed day care providers require a child under
18 months should sleep in a crib or a playpen.
