Shawnee County Voter Information

The General Election is Tuesday, April 7th. Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. All advance ballots must be returned to the Shawnee County Election Office by 7:00 p.m.

Monday April 6th at 12 noon is the deadline for advanced voting at the Shawnee County Election Office.

Shawnee County Elections Commissioner Elizabeth Ensley wants to remind voters that there are questions on both sides of the ballot. Remember to turn you ballot over before submitting it.

City of Topeka: Question No. 1

Topeka Sales Tax Question
Shall the following be adopted?

Shall the City of Topeka levy an additional retailers’ sales tax in the amount of five-tenths of one percent (0.5%) to be used exclusively for costs of maintenance and improvements of existing City streets, gutters, curbs, sidewalks, alleys and street lighting, provided such tax shall take effect October 1, 2009, and expire ten (10) years from the date of imposition?

City of Topeka: Question No. 2

Topeka Charter Ordinance Question
Shall the following be adopted?

Shall Charter Ordinance No. 98 adding a provision to allow the Council to override a mayoral veto by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the entire Council that number being six (6) and chartering out of K.S.A. 12-3003 entitled: ‘A Charter Ordinance introduced by Mayor William W. Bunten and Councilmember Deborah Swank, amending City of Topeka Code § A2-1 to Charter out of K.S.A. 12-3003, City of Topeka Code § A2-24 to give the Mayor the right to vote on certain legislation and repealing said original sections; also creating new section A2-25.5 concerning the City Council’s ability to override a mayoral veto’ take effect?

Shall the following be adopted?

Shall a City retailer’s sales tax at the rate of three-quarter percent (.75%) be levied in the City of Willard, for the general purpose of providing infrastructure maintenance, to be effective October 1, 2009?
