ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ Residents in Arkansas City are saying farewell to a hardware store that's been a downtown fixture since the southeast Kansas town's founding in 1870.

Bryant Hardware Store is having a store-closing inventory sale. Everything must go, even a few pieces of history.

A 1911 metal cash register that the Bryant family used over the decades sold for $2,500.

The Bryants became the store's owners in 1926 and various family members ran it. But sales began to decline over the past several months.

Union State Bank took over the store in March.

Bill Docking, the bank's chairman and CEO, says there will be an auction to sell the store's shelves and other fixtures once the inventory has been bought up.
