Additional DUI Enforcement Planned in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Topeka Police Department will increase their DUI enforcement this weekend (DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS) by having five additional shifts available for officers to work voluntary overtime to target Impaired Drivers.

This overtime program is funded by the Impaired Driving Deterrence Program Grant administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation, Bureau of Traffic Safety.

The 5 additional officers will be in addition to officers working their regular assigned shifts. “The message is simple, if you are stopped and you are impaired, you will be arrested and go to jail.”

The Topeka Police Department encourages people to use designated drivers or call a cab. Anyone hosting a get together this weekend should make plans to get their guests home safely.

TPD also encourages people to call the police department at 368-9200 to report impaired drivers so officers can make every attempt possible to get them off the road before they injure themselves or someone else.

The Topeka Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Remember, OVER THE LIMIT. UNDER ARREST! So, Drive Safe, Drive Sober and Buckle Up!
