WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A May 15 sentencing date has been set for
the passenger in a truck that struck and killed two people last
summer in a crowded parking lot outside a south Wichita bar.

Sedgwick County jurors have convicted 22-year-old Carlos
Chavez-Aguilar of second-degree unintentional murder and voluntary
manslaughter in the deaths of 22-year-old Juan Martinez and
54-year-old Marilyn Arreola.

He also was convicted of aggravated battery in the injury of a
third person.

His lawyer, Brad Sylvester, said he plans to ask for a new trial
because gang testimony was allowed.

Police said the truck crashed into the victims after gang members started a fight around 2 a.m. on Aug. 23.

The man accused of driving the truck, 20-year-old Rene Chavez-Aguilar, faces trial April 27.
