Topeka Man Faces Capital Charges

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Topeka man is charged with one count of capital murder and one count of rape in the death of his live-in girlfriend.

And police say they're looking into the deaths of two other women with whom he has lived.

Fifty-three-year-old James P. Carnoali was charged Tuesday in the death of 44-year-old Terri Nadeau.

Carnoali is being held on $750,000 bond.

Nadeau and Carnoali lived at the same apartment complex where he had lived with another woman who died in 2007. In 2001, the man was arrested but not charged in the death of his live-in girlfriend during a fight at their home.

Topeka Police Sgt. Steve Taylor said it's not unusual for investigators to look into a suspect's past, noting that the man has had relationships with three women who have died.
