Firefighters battled an overnight fire Tuesday in the historic Oppenheimer building in downtown Hutchinson.

Officials say an unknown number of residents in the neighboring Leon building were evacuated.

Crews say the smoky fire burned for at least three hours.

One resident said that from the street, the smoke was so thick he couldn't see the top of the multi-story building.

No serious injuries were reported and the cause is still being investigated.
