Utility Official Found Dead in Home

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ Police say a high-ranking Board of Public Utilities official who was accused of stealing nearly $400,000 from the Kansas City, Kan., utility has been found dead in his home.

Police responded Wednesday morning to a reported shooting at the residence and found Marc D. Conklin, BPU's director of administration. Police say he was in his early 40s.

Conklin and attorney Rodney Turner were indicted in October on 57 charges, including two counts of theft and 55 counts of submitting false claims between Sept. 1, 2003, and April 30, 2008.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges in Wyandotte County District Court.

BPU issued a statement Wednesday expressing condolences to Conklin's family.
